Qantas and Australia Post celebrate 100 years of airmail

2 November 2022

Qantas and Australia Post today celebrated 100 years of airmail and the global carrier’s first customer!

Members of the Qantas founders’ family joined with senior executives from Qantas and Australia to mark 100 years after the first Qantas customer and the first bag of letters flew its way across Queensland, back in November 1922.

Qantas and Australia Post celebrated the special occasion at Brisbane Airport with a centenary flight, taking off with a replica mailbag of 106 handwritten letters from schoolchildren to follow the 882-kilometer route from Brisbane to Charleville and on to Longreach.

Brisbane Airport EGM Aviation Ryan Both and BNE Enterprise’s Doug Pye join Ruth from the Royal Historical Society of Queensland, showcasing the first Qantas passenger ticket issued.
